Please help keep AASY afloat!

Not free sailing as yet!

Since Covid the revenue at AASY has not recovered to pre-pandemic level. Operating costs are quite high at our beautiful facility. We truly appreciate any donations any of you can offer. And we’d love to hear from you in the comment boxes below. Let us know how your yoga is an important part of your life.

  1. Laurie, your classes have been so helpful to me. In many ways I am grateful for the pandemic in that I was able to attend your classes on a regular basis! Hopefully with my and others donations, your wonderful studio will stay open for years to come!

  2. We are unable to join today’s fundraiser celebration, however we are grateful to provide a donation. A small token of our gratitude for Laurie (and Becca and Dave) and the beautiful and peaceful studio in which to learn and practice.
I would like to invite others to brainstorm a more permanent solution to keeping the studio as “Laurie’s studio” for as long as possible. Perhaps there are others who agree and have ideas for ways to achieve that goal.
    Peace and gratitude.

  3. I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to study with Laurie virtually. I live in new Jersey and my teacher passed away in 2019. Thank you for keeping the flame Laurie, thank you for all you give, for passing on the tradition, for a clear and generous teaching, for your sense of humor. Thank you for inspiring!!
    Namaste, Patricia

  4. Sending small donation with prayers for you to get everything you need.
Laurie is a treasure and her school is a unique and profound establishment. Please give with generosity!

  5. I am fairly new to this school and Iyengar yoga, generally. I am extremely happy to have found this system. I so look forward to my Monday morning class! I have learned so much from you, Laurie. Thank you for that.

  6. Namaste!
I am eager to return to AAschoolofY with you.
In the meantime my daughter is sheltering here and we have been using some recorded online series to keep things moving.

Be safe and thank you so much for everything that you do.

  7. Dear Laurie, David and Becka,

Thank you for inspiring us with your interesting yoga sequences. I try to practice about three times a week, but it’s not the same as being in the school with all of you. I miss you and I hope to see you soon. Izabela

  8. We are missing our yoga community! Thanks all for all the practice sessions. They are great!

  9. Hi Laurie, We miss you and AASY and the whole community.
    Sending Love,
    Bill and Linda Damon

  10. I’ve been enjoying the blog posts here on the website! I cannot wait to get back to the studio. In the meantime, I had the opportunity to work on the forward bend sequence and the sequence Becca put together with accompanying pictures. I felt more energized after doing the sequences :). Thank you Laurie, Dave, and Becca for everything you are doing to support the community’s home practice during this difficult time!

  11. Laurie,
I send greetings from Berkeley CA where Saunterre and I are sheltering in place. I also send deep gratitude for the years of practice with you on Fourth Ave and then Huron Street. I still miss the beautiful studio and your Pranayama class.

  12. I loved to practice with invocation in Ms. Laurie’s voice. Great idea! Now while practicing I am trying to think of instructions she would give to refine our poses. It is a wonderful experience to internalize and focus on stretching a bit more here and a bit more there. Thank you for posting the practice guides, and Becca for suggestions on the improvised props. Very helpful.

  13. Thank you for sharing the asana sequences. Especially liked “sitting and watching the breath.”

  14. Thanks so much for the home practice guidance. It’s really helping me get through these days. So grateful for this community.

  15. Laurie:
Thanks for the continuing lessons and inspiration. It is much appreciated. I hope, and am looking forward to, seeing you and the morning crew again soon.
    Jack

  16. It appears that our tenacity for optimism, home practice, and social responsibility is being tested. From what folks are saying working from home is more intense by far than going into the office. Hopefully we can all put down our phones while doing our yoga.

We have a lot of AASY students who are volunteering, working in the health care sector, and doing their best to help all get through this. Let us know how you are doing, and how your yoga may be helping you along.

  17. We miss you too! Please be sure you and Michael are safe.

Keep up the practice. This lates one with the going towards and coming away should spark some comments…

  18. Thank you so much, Laurie, Dave, Becca, for caring for us with the blog during this very strange time. I love doing the new sequences. They help keep me from getting into a rut.

I’m longing for us all to be together again,

    Kathy

  19. Many thanks to Laurie, Dave and Becca for keeping things going. I love the practices you all have posted.
    With much gratitude and love,
    Rosanne

  20. Dear Fellow Yoga Students,
I may be Laurie’s oldest student. I’m now 87, and have been studying yoga since I was 45. When I began, Laurie was also a student. Mary Palmer was our teacher. The fact that I am still active I largely attribute to my daily yoga practice, plus my wonderful classes. Each morning I do a gentle practice of a few standing poses, a couple of very short inversions, and some seated floor postures. None of it is strenuous. Warmest, Judith

  21. Such huge thanks to all of you who have sent support and for your offers to help in so many ways. I am at AASY each day (don’t worry, alone and physically distant from anyone, but close to you all in my heart). While there, I’m cleaning like a maniac. It gives me somewhere to go, and something to do, and after the cleaning chores I’m getting a wonderful practice in. I can’t wait to share my insights once we are back in class.
